New York: Vantage Press, [1973]. Hardcover. 8vo. Green buckram with silver spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 109pp. Near fine/very good. Bit of jacket edgewear; homely chip to lower corner of rear board. Item #52907

Tight and nice first edition of this slim verse collection, mainly of religious and spiritual focus -- boldly inscribed and signed in red ballpoint on the front flyleaf: "For my precious / God-child / Virginia / ('Dean')." Gilmore (1899-1981) was an actress, theatrical producer and occasional author, daughter of noted actor of stage and early screen and motion picture producer Paul Gilmore (1873-1962); together this father-daughter duo opened Cherry Lane Theater in New York in the 1930s, which debuted an exceptional number of plays, and the Gilmore Comedy Theatre in Duluth, Minnesota in 1948. Not to be confused with another actress of the same name, Yul Brynner's wife (1919-86).
