Attractive and tight first edition of this yarn, basis for the 1921 silent film. Beach (1877-1949) was a wildly prolific American novelist and playwright (1877-1949) and as a young man was member of the American water polo team at the 1904 Olympics; he often used his experiences in Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush for adventure tales such as the 1906 bestseller "The Spoilers"; a household name in the early 20th century because of bestsellers such as "The Net" (1912), "Don Careless" (1928), "Jungle Gold" (1935) and many others -- some were turned into films -- he committed suicide at age 71.
