Signature and Salutation.
This Union major general during the Civil War was awarded the Medal of Honor for his role in the First Battle of Bull Run, and it was he who read the order for execution of the Lincoln assassins; he later served as 17th governor of Pennsylvania (1873-79). Item #52834

Accompanied by a 2½" X 3½" black-and-white glossy photograph reproducing an artist's head-and-shoulders image of a young Hartranft in uniform.
