The most famous maritime disaster of all time occurred when the "unsinkable" British passenger liner sunk in the icy North Atlantic on April 15, 1912, two hours and forty minutes after striking an iceberg. Item #52701
Signed Broadside, 40" X 30", n.p., n.d. [1969]. Very good. Faintly age toned and even more faintly edgeworn, with original fold lines (as issued; some with expert archival strengthening on blank verso). This large facsimile of a December 1911 floor plan depicts all five passenger levels (A-E) with "A" of course at top, surrounded by seven small photographs (mostly room interiors) and a fine print column of "Notes." Near the top margin right of center, just above the printed line "Plan of First Class Accommodation," WALTER LORD (1917-2002, author of the 1955 bestseller "A Night to Remember") signs large and bold in black fineline, BERTRAM V. DEAN (1910-92), signs in black fineline, and EVA M. HART (1905-96, signs in blue ink. At lower right, just above the "D" level floor plan, appears the crabbed old age signature in blue ballpoint of MARJORIE N. ROBB (1889-1992) -- who signs there as it is near the D-36 stateroom in which she and her sister stayed. This floor plan came with Geoffrey Marcus's book "The Maiden Voyage" (New York: Viking Press, 1969). Quite unusual and an exceptional display item -- a superb assemblage signed in old age by several last survivors and the author who really got the Titanic juggernaut rolling -- most unusual to see these together on one item.
