Tight and bright copy of the fifth title published by the Book Club of California, founded by fine press publisher John Henry Nash (1871-1947) and three others in 1912 and this title printed by him as well. First published in the September 1st, 1777 issue of "The Spectator," the famed allegorical essay he claimed was a translation of a manuscript purchased in Cairo. The sepia-tone engraved frontispiece portrait of Addison is by Dan Sweeney; title page decoration and marginal glosses in orange. Rear colophon cites limitation of 300 numbered copies (this #10). Front flyleaf bears the custom bookplate of Alfred Sutro (1869-1945), famed attorney and at this time vice president (later president) of the Book Club of California. O'DAY 5.
