This popular American poet, a professor of modern languages at Bowdoin College and Harvard University, is best remembered for "The Song of Hiawatha" (1855) and "Paul Revere's Ride" (1863) and other classics. Item #52585
Attractive "Yours truly" and signature, dated by him 1874, on a 4½" X 2½" slip, n.d. Very good. Slight show-through from small mounting traces on verso, but overall a lovely example, penned large and bold. Accompanied by a superb 9½" X 8" sepia-tone heavy stock book photogravure (Elson & Co.), undated but late 19th century. A charming image of Longfellow's study -- a delightfully cluttered den with fireplace, bookcases, books stacked about, portraits of Hawthorne and Emerson on the walls, etc.
