Personal Memoirs of P.H. Sheridan, General United States Army.
New York: Charles L. Webster & Company, 1888. Complete 2-volume set. Small 4to. Green cloth with gilt spine lettering and pictorial gilt front covers. xiii, 500pp; xi, 486pp. Frontispiece, illustrations, maps (some foldouts), decorative endpapers. Very good. Slightest bit of edgewear only, with touch of spine rubbing, else an exceptionally tight and lovely set with fine text blocks. Item #52513
Superb first edition of the famed Union general's memoir. The other "shoulderstrap editions" (so-called because of the gilt-and-black epaulette on each spine) -- Ulysses S. Grant, George McClellan and William T. Sherman -- are more common than the Sheridan set, which is legitimately scarce in clean, tight collector's condition. The front cover pictorial gilt on each volume depicting a hat-waving Sheridan astride his galloping horse are bright and fresh.
