This French historian and attorney was one of the official court writers of the 17th century, producing biographies of Cardinal Richelieu (1660) and Cardinal Mazarin (1688) as well as broader works such as "General History of the Cardinals" (1642) and "From the preeminence of our kings, and their precedence over the emperor and the king of Spain" (1649), among others; his 1667 "Treatise on the just claims of the King to the Empire" caused Louis XIV to imprison Aubéry in the Bastille for three months.
