Exceptionally scarce first (and only) edition of the side-by-side Greek/English translation of this semi-autobiographical work (also known as "Life of Isidore") by the famed "last of the Athenian Neoplatonists" (c. 462-c. 538 BCE). This scholarly edition is translated by and bears extensive notes by the distinguished professor of Late Antiquity cultural and religious history Athanassiadi (b. 1946), who boldly inscribes the front flyleaf in black fineline: "For Elaine / with my love / Polymnia / Oxford 15.vi.99." A surprisingly uncommon title, a nicely inscribed copy even more so.
