Item #52253 Ricca-Cameron Checker Match: St. Petersburg, Florida -- March 7, 8, 9, 10 -- 1956. George S. CALLIS, compiler.

Ricca-Cameron Checker Match: St. Petersburg, Florida -- March 7, 8, 9, 10 -- 1956.

Davison, MI: George S. Davis, [1956]. Pamphlet. 24mo. Stiff beige wrappers. 20pp. Fine. Item #52253

First edition of this barebones production that "simply records," as Lovell notes, "without annotation, the 20 games of the match between checker masters James Ricca and Alex Cameron." Callis does, however, offer minor footnote comments, as when he notes at the conclusion: "Mr. Cameron might have won the match by winning this game but the opening isn't too hard and is pretty well understood by all top players. So, it ends in a tie. What a match!" He further notes that this little booklet is "his first attempt and will the critics not be too harsh." Apparently it was a knuckle-biter, for he goes on: "He watched the entire match most of the time from the edge of the chair. They play was too good not to be preserved for posterity." Uncommon and a fairly pristine copy. Inner front wrapper bears small gold foil printed name/address label of the "John Caldwell-Irving Windt Library of Checkers" of Dubuque. LOVELL 306.
