The British military figure and politician fought side by side with the Duke of Wellington in the Peninsular War and other conflicts, later serving as Governor of Jersey. Item #52223
Free-Franked Signature, 4½" X 3¼", Lamberhurst, 20 November 1838. Near fine. Lightly age toned. Envelope front portion, boldly signed simply "Beresford" at lower left, with placeand date penned at top and at center recipient ("Miss Harness / Heathcote St. / London"). Reddish-brown circular postal cancellation at right. (noting "FREE / 21 Nov. / 1838"). Verso bears partial letter portion, 40-50 words scrawled in Beresford's hand. Interesting, but a challenging script to transcribe.
