Item #52216 Typed Note Signed. Ellis GIMBEL, Jr.

Typed Note Signed.

Son of one of the seven founding brothers, all sons of store founder Adam Gimbel who founded the famed store in Indiana in 1842, this business executive served as head of the New York department store from 1929 to 1940. Item #52216

TNS, 1p, (lettersheet), 5½" X 8½", New York, NY, 13 May 1938. Addressed to "Father" (Ellis Gimbel, 1865-1950). Near fine. Two-punched at left margin (not affecting text). On "Office of Ellis A. Gimbel Jr." letterhead, the son writes his old man: "Thank you so much for your glorious and delightfully clever invitation to be with you on 'Orphans' Day' at the Circus on May twenty-third. I consider it a great honor to be asked; an even greater privilege to accept." Funny that he signs off in full and even adds a stiff "Your Son"!
