The Politics of Woodrow Wilson: Selections from His Speeches and Writings.
New York: Harper & Brothers, [1956]. Hardcover. Edited by August Heckscher. 8vo. Green cloth with gilt spine lettering. xxiv, 389pp. Very good. Spine slightly sunned, else tight and internally fine; lacks dust jacket. Item #52198
Attractive first edition of this thick collection. Long before the 28th U.S. president's fall from grace for his blatantly racist views, one of his admirers was fellow Princeton alumni Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65), Illinois governor and two-time Democratic presidential candidate. This was Stevenson's personal copy, bearing his rubberstamped ownership signature on the front flyleaf.
