Item #52166 Signatures. Nick ALTROCK, Al SCHACHT.

Signatures.

Altrock was a pitcher who debuted in 1898 with the Louisville Colonels, also playing for the Chicago White Sox (winning 20+ games for the 1906 "Hitless Wonders") and Washington Senators before retiring in 1933; as a Washington Senators coach, he and Schacht became renowned for their comedy routine performed on baseball fields from 1925 to 1934 -- which approximately dates this undated item. Schacht was a Washington Senators pitcher (debuted 1919) who later became the other half of "The Clown Princes of Baseball." Item #52166

Signatures on a single pale blue 3 3/4" X 6" autograph album leaf, n.p., n.y. Near fine. Near the top of this sheet, Altrock signs boldly in black fountain pen, Schacht signing below him. Below both a 2½" X ½" white slip has been neatly affixed upon which is typed "Baseball's Funny Men." Though not dated, these signatures were obtained by noted collector Preston Sawyer (1899-1968), California journalist and historical writer, in San Francisco in 1930. A choice pair from the height of their funnymen fame. Unusual to find the two funnymen together.

Price: $150.00
