The namesake son of the noted American naval officer (1780-1843) served under his father in the West Indies; in the Civil War, he commanded a mortar fleet under Farragut (his stepbrother) at New Orleans and on the Mississippi; promoted to rear admiral in 1863. Item #52139

Bold "David D. Porter / Admiral" in brown ink on a 3½" X 2¼" slip (mat opening 3" X 2"). Near fine. Above this is an outstanding steel-engraved full-length portrait of Porter in uniform aboard ship (mat opening 6½" X 10"). Facsimile signature below image and miniscule copyright data notes publication in 1862 by Johnson, Fry & Co. of New York. Very good. Faint age toning and touch of foxing. This pair are attractively single matted in light sienna and under glass in a decorative ½" dark wooden frame (overall dimensions 10" X 16").
