Abraham Lincoln, Standing.
New York: Museum Pieces, Inc., n.y. Composition statue with dark bronze finish. 21.5" height, 4" X 4¼" base. Near fine. Item #51643
Anthony Cipriano (1899-1975) sculpted this handsome and near pristine full-length statue of an exceptionally svelt bearded Lincoln in bow tie and vest and knee-length overcoat, sporting a top hat. His right hand clutches the lapel of his coat. Felt-bottomed, with small silver label noting "Copyrighted Reproduction of the Original." Undated, but likely produced circa 1965. Museum Pieces, Inc. issued a number of reproductions throughout the 1950s and '60s, including a 10" bust of Lincoln. The elongated figure is elegant, not cartoonish, and finished in a somewhat rustic manner. This full-length figure is rarely encountered, unlike this firm's Lincoln bust, and this is an exceptional condition example. From the collection of Arnold F. Gates (1914-93), noted Lincoln scholar and long-time officer of the New York Civil War Round Table -- as well as friend and neighbor of Cipriano on Long Island, where both lived. Weighs in at a hefty 7 pounds 10 ounces and shipped at cost. Accompanied by Museum Pieces, Inc. original descriptive card.
