Connecticut's 25th lieutenant governor (1797-1809) became its 21st governor (1809-11); he served many civic positions, and from 1786-97 served as Judge of the Court of Common Pleas; he also served the state convention that ratified the U.S. Constitution in 1788. Item #51589
ADS, 1p, 8" X 3¼", Middletown, CT, 29 October 1794. Very good. Lightly age toned. As clerk of the governor's council for many years, Treadwell directs long-time state treasurer Andrew Kingsbury (1759-1837) to "Pay John Beach of Cheshire for keeping a State [ ? ] three pounds twelve shillings money & charge the State." Boldly penned in brown ink and signed at the close. Alongside a modern glossy 3" X 3½" photograph of a later-life steel-engraved head-and-shoulders portrait of Treadwell, this document has been free-floated and double-matted in beige and green under glass in a 1" wooden frame (overall dimensions 16¼" X 7½"). Quite attractive.
