Superb 1st edition of this of this novel about (to cite jacket flap) an "ordinary working girl [who] emerges triumphant from the ruins of the Second World War as a woman of valor, a genuine hero...." Signed boldly by Isaacs in blue fineline on title page. In 1992 a film version was released, and this quite unusual copy bears on front flyleaf two matching, heavy stock 5" X 3" cards each signed by a co-star: At top is MICHAEL DOUGLAS (born 1944; portrays Ed Leland), who signs in blue ball-point and dates it 24 March 1971 at upper right. An exceptionally early Douglas signature, predating even his first hit t.v series ("The Streets of San Francisco," 1972-76). Below him is LIAM NEESON (born 1952; portrays General Franze-Otto Dietrich), who signs large and bold in black fineline, dating it February 1993 at upper right. Apparently this stinker won the following Razzie Awards for 1992: Worst Picture, Worst Actress, Worst Director, with nominations for Worst Actor and Worst Screenplay! Exceptionally early Douglas signature, predating his first hit t.v. series ("The Streets of San Franci-sco," 1972-76). Laid in is the Kroch's & Brentano's "First Edition Circle" bookmark plus Douglas and Neeson's transmittal envelopes.
