Tight and nice first edition of this hefty gathering of 200 of the famed Austrian explorer's photographs of Tibet, with his accompanying text -- and tipped in facing the half-title page is a choice color signed photograph of Harrer, a 5½" X 8" glossy leaflet published by the Heinrich-Harrer-Museum Hüttenberg (a small museum in the Austrian city where he was born) featuring a large central image of Harrer in later years standing alongside a bust of himself; just below this bust, he signs boldly in blue fineline. Harrer (1912-2006) was an Austrian mountaineer, explorer and author who was part of the first team to climb the north face of the Eiger in Switzerland in 1938, and his many years in Tibet he chronicled in the bestselling "Seven Years in Tibet" (1952), basis for the 1997 film. Quite an exceptional copy.
