Volume 27, Number 4, in "The Reference Shelf" series that gathered roughly 20 important speeches and reprinted them in this annual compilation, divided into six categories (Foreign Relations, Economic Policies, Party Politics, Legislative Censure, Education and Religion). This is a contributor's copy -- that of Illinois governor and twice Democratic presidential candidate Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65). His "Cooper Union Address" (in the Party Politics section) runs from page 99 through 108. Stevenson places a red checkmark alongside this on the table of contents and folds down the corner of page 99. He stands in good company -- other speeches in this volume come from Dwight D.
