Item #51047 Call to Greatness. [Japanese edition]. Adlai E. STEVENSON.

Call to Greatness. [Japanese edition]

Tokyo: Yuki Shobo, n.y. Hardcover. 12mo. White paper over boards with black lettering, dust jacket, wraparound advertising band. 173pp. Very good. Mild age toning to boards and text block, with same to jacket and wraparound band. Item #51047

Likely first Japanese edition -- entirely in Japanese but for a few English words -- of the 1954 Democratic presidential candidate's book, presumably published shortly after. Interestingly, three blurbs on the jacket's rear panel (that is, the front panel) appear entirely in English. Rear flyleaf bears a small printerd "NOT FOR SALE" / Sample Complete Copy" label -- apparently sent to Stevenson as a courtesy. The 1954 first American edition proclaims on its jacket that this lecture given by Stevenson at Harvard in March 1954 is "A Survey of a Troubled World and Heartening Testimony on Democracy's Power to Survive!" From the collection of Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021), son of the governor and himself U.S. Senator from Illinois (1969-81). An unusual copy with interesting provenance.

Price: $75.00
