Tight and nice second printing. Ivins (1881-1961), the influential curator of prints at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Arts, introduces this facsimile of the Latin edition printed by Guyot Marchand of Paris for publisher Geoffroi de Marnef, which he calls "one of the greater monuments of French book illustration." The first edition was published in August 1945, this second printing the following month -- given the L. of C. in 1943 and one of only a half dozen known copies.
