ALA president Hay introduces this pair of essays, with McLaughlin addressing "Lincoln, the Constitution and Democracy" and Smith "A Philosopher Looks at Lincoln." Begun in 1924, this annual was for many years titled "Lincoln Centennial Association Papers." From the library of Illinois governor, twice Democratic presidential candidate and well-known Lincoln lover Adlai E.
