Pristine leatherbound edition of the Hugo-nominated "hard sci-fi" novel (first published 1970) in this publisher's "Masterpieces of Science Fiction" series. This unique copy bears an intriguing autograph addition: Tipped to blank leaf facing half-title page is a 5" X 3 3/4" magazine photograph, a well-known group shot of famed sci-fi authors gathered in 1950 for the first sci-fi writers' convention. Anderson appears third from right and signs below his image in his miniscule hand in black fineline; FREDERIK POHL (1919-2013) appears fourth from right and signs in black ballpoint below his likeness; L. SPRAGUE DE CAMP (1907-2000) appears second from right and signs in full in black fineline atop his image. None of these three date their signatures, but likely all were signed in the early 1980s. Publisher's "Collector's Notes" sheet laid in. A lovely copy bearing a small image nicely signed by the author and two other sci-fi giants -- highly unusual.
