Sharp, tight copy of this LEC production, with colophon at rear noting a limitation of 1200 numbered copies (this #491) boldly signed in brown ink by illustrator Martin -- smaller than their usual 1500 limitation. Fine selection of Harte's best work, starting of course with "The Luck of Roaring Camp" and "The Outcasts of Poker Flat." The deeply-embossed "gold nugget" graphic on the front board is delightful. Front pastedown bears the custom bookplate of Edward Howrey (1903-96), chairman of the Federal Trade Commission (1953-55) and founder of noted Washington law firm Howrey & Simon. NEWMAN 160.
