Signed Caricature.
This NASA astronaut and U.S. Navy test pilot served as pilot on the Gemini 11 mission (1966) and the Apollo 12 mission (1969). Item #49680
Signed Caricature, 8" X 10½", n.p., n.y. Near fine. Single faint horizontal fold (not weakened). Undated, but a pencilled note on verso (possibly in artist Jack Rosen's hand) dates it 1969. This head-and-shoulders caricature in black marker on beige stock shows a smiling young Gordon in suit and tie, a couple of medals (he was awarded a chestful of them) visible. His Autopen signature (a full "Richard F. Gordon Jr." in blue ink) appears in a blank area at lower left, while a huge bold authentic "Dick Gordon" in black marker appears at lower right. Beneath the caricature is the signature of artist Jack Rosen (1914-89), the long-time Waldorf Astoria employee and accomplished caricaturist who sketched many thousands of celebrities he encountered at the famed New York hotel, afterwards getting them signed.
