Who Lost an American?

Who Lost an American?

New York: The Macmillan Company, [1963]. Hardcover. 8vo. Quarter tan cloth and burgundy paper over boards with red, blue and green lettering, pictorial price-clipped dust jacket. viii, 337pp. Near fine/very good. Jacket lightly edgeworn and a tad rubbed. Item #49305

Tight and nice first edition of these quirky travel essays, described on jacket front panel as "A whirligig spin through Paris and Playboy Clubs, New York publishing and Dublin pubs, Crete and Chicago and many other phenomenal places...." The author inscribes and signs the front flyleaf in blue marker so huge and bold ("For / Elizabeth / Blackburn / in hope / she may / Some day find / her car -- with best / wishes -- Nelson Algren") that a ghostly image of this inscription appears on the front jacket flap, front pastedown and several subsequent leaves (diminishing with each page) up through and including the title page! BRUCCOLI A 9.1.a.
