Robert C. Euler provides the foreword to this lovely, bright, tight first edition of this (to quote jacket front panel) "journey to the Havasupai Indians in 1882" which first appeared in two "Atlantic Monthly" issues in that year. Best of all, tipped to the front flyleaf is an appropriate philatelic addition: A First Day Cover for the 3-cent "Coronado Quarto Centennial" stamp, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Albuquerque, NM on 7 September 1940 and with single Coronado postage stamp at upper right. Left half bears printed map of the Coronado trail with text. Near fine. The Zuni had encounters with Spanish conquistador Francisco Vazquez de Coronado during his legendary 1540-42 exepdtion to the Southwest. Cushing (1857-1900) was an influential anthropologist/ethnologist who made groundbreaking studies of New Mexico's Zuni Indians.
