In 1960 Stanbrook Abbey Press published Sassoon's poetry collection "The Path to Peace." With the poem "Awaitment," added to this volume late that same year, the publisher laid in this single-page printed poem loose, then also printed another 124 copies and tipped each into stiff card folders -- and likely the same scenario took place with "Arbor Vitae." The initial capital letter of the first word of each poem ("For" and "Tight") have been hand lettered in burnt umber. Handsome miniscule hand calligraphy on front wrapper notes "From 'The Path to Peace' / Siegfried Sassoon" and on rear wrapper "Printed in England." A lovely, scarce piece.
