Outstandingly tight and bright copy of this lovely edition, undated but bearing nonauthorial gift inscription ("Something every humanist should know") on front pastedown dated Christmas 1948 to Frank S. Hanlin (1924-82, bibliographer and University of Iowa special collections director). The best known and most controversial work of this English poet (1832-1904), his version of this Indian epic about the teachings of Buddha earned both supporters and critics. Quite a lovely copy.
