Tight and handsome reprint edition of the popular novel first published in 1834 by the once-popular English writer/politician (1803-73) -- and with choice autograph additions. One of the many stage, film and television versions of the novel was a 1984 miniseries, and this copy boasts signatures of two stars of that version tipped to front flyleaf on fine, matching, heavy stock 5" X 3" cards. At top is NED BEATTY (1937-2021), who plays wealthy merchant Diomed; he signs in black fineline and above this adds "God Bless You" in his large calligraphic script. Below this is NICHOLAS CLAY (1946-2000), who plays Greek nobleman Glaucus; he signs in red fineline, adding "Best Wishes" above and dating it "1st Day of Spring '75 / 21st March" at upper right. Laid in is the relevant "Sandglass" as well as Beatty and Clay's original transmittal envelopes.
