Handsome copy of this wildly popular 1904 romance set in the Guyana jungle of southeastern Venezuela, with colophon at rear noting limitation of 1500 numbered copies (this #533) boldly signed by illustrator Wilson. This copy bears a choice autograph addition: Tipped to front flyleaf is a Typed Note Signed from introducer Beebe, 1p, 5½" X 8½", New York, NY, 13 August 1940. Addressed to future Lincoln/Civil War scholar Arnold F. Gates (1914-93). Near fine. On "New York Zoological Society" letterhead citing him as director, this impressively productive entomologist, ornithologist, naturalist, explorer, author, marine biologist and Guyana authority (1877-1962) thanks an admirer, adding, "My last book was Zaca Venture.
