Lincoln's New Salem.
Chicago: Americana House, 1961. Hardcover. Drawings by Romaine Proctor. Small 8vo. Pictorial paper over boards. xiv, 166pp, v. Line drawings, 2 maps. Very good. Minor binding edgewear, else tight and internally fine. Item #47282
Tight and attractive copy of this reprint edition of the 1934 profile of the pioneer community and its residents. This copy belonged to Phyllis C. Brinkley (1926-2018), Wisconsin writer and author of several Lincoln books. She boldly pens "Property of / Phyllis C. Brinkley" in blue ballpoint on front flyleaf and the text contains the occasional underlining and margin observations in her hand. Below the Americana House imprint on title page a signature of that publisher's founder, Ralph G. Newman (1911-98) of Abraham Lincoln Book Shop fame, is affixed. Just for fun, this interesting copy is accompanied by a fine copy of Brinkley's 1973 address before the Lincoln Fellowship of Wisconsin, "Abraham Lincoln and His Wife, Mary: A Study of Two Human Beings," which references this standard work among others.
