Item #47244 Inscribed Photograph Signed. Rose ROMAN, 1917?-2006?

Inscribed Photograph Signed.

This famed Iowa-born female wrestler debuted in 1950 and headlined in countless matches throughout the 1950s, often pairing with Shirley "The Wrestling Housewife" Strimple; Roman was a pioneer, successfully suing the Illinois Athletic Commission in 1955 for the right to work in pro wrestling in that state. Item #47244

Very scarce matte-finish IPS, 14" X 19" (tipped to heavy stock 16" X 20"), n.p., n.y.. Near fine. This attractive, oversize print was created by what today we would call a "superfan," though it bears no photographer's credit or other identifications recto or verso. Full-length cheesecake pose shows a smiling young Roman in skimpy outfit and stiletto heels, left hand resting on oversize vase. At left center, she inscribes and signs in blue ballpoint "To My Good Friend / Don Burnell / Best Wishes Always / Rose Roman." Not dated, but likely circa 1959. Most unusual item from the "Golden Age of Wrestling" and quite likely one of a kind in this large format.
