The Abraham Lincoln Encyclopedia.

New York: Da Capo Press, [1982]. Paperback. 4to. Stiff glossy pictorial wrappers. 356pp. Illustrations. Near fine. Item #43600
ISBN: 0306802090

A tight, bright and handsome first softbound edition of this most often-consulted and indispensable of Lincoln reference works -- and surprisingly scarce to boot. This sharp copy has been extra-illustrated with a fine autograph addition as frontispiece: Tipped opposite the title page is a Typed Note Signed from Neely, 8¼" X 11", Fort Wayne, IN, 22 June 1982. Addressed to Abraham Lincoln Book Shop founder Ralph G. Newman (1912-98). Near fine. On letterhead of "The Louis A. Warren Lincoln Library and Museum" which he served as director, Neely sends his friend "Thanks for the New Salem coloring book. And thanks, too, for coming to the lecture in May.... maybe we'll see you at Stephen's autograph party in November...." -- this last surely referring to fellow Lincolnist Stephen B. Oates, whose much-awaited "Let the Trumpet Sound: The Life of Martin Luther King, Jr." was published this same year. A superb copy of a quite uncommon title with choice author letter as well.
