Signature and Title.
This notable Tennessean served with the 8th Tennessee Cavalry of the Confederate States Army during the Civil War, afterward becoming an attorney and politician and serving several terms as a Democrat in Congress (1883-85, 1889-93, 1897-1905). Item #42572
A large and bold full signature and title ("Commander In Chief / United Confederate Veterans") in black ink near the top of an 8½" X 11" sheet of his "Pierce & Fry" law firm letterhead, Union City, TN, n.d. Near fine. Undated, but from a collection gathered in the mid-1930s, thus near the end of his long life. Unusual in this form-- interesting and attractive.
