Famed financier whose fortunes were made in metals and in banking; in 1902 he became president of Pittsburgh's Mellon National Bank; in public life, he served as secretary of the treasury (1921-32) under Harding, Coolidge and Hoover and as ambassador to Great Britain. Item #40742

A bold and handsome "Autograph of -- / A.W. Mellon / Pittsburgh Pa / June 1934" in black ink on a heavy stock 5" X 3" card, n.p. Near fine. Accompanied by an outstanding glossy 8" X 6" original news agency photograph (International Newsreel Photo) depicting Mellon and Thomas A. Edison standing in front of an American flag, an NBC radio microphone on a small table between them. Original mimeographed paper label affixed to verso captions this image "Edison Receives Gold Medal of Congress," and explains: "East Orange, N.J. -- Photo shows Secretary of the Treasury, Andrew Mellon (left) presenting the Gold Medal of Congress to Thomas A. Edison, world famous electrical wizard, at the Edison Laboratories here today. The award was made because of Mr. Edison's scientific accomplishments. The ceremony was broadcast over the radio," and dated 20 October 1928. A superb signature with exceptional vintage photograph.
