ALS, 2pp (1st and 4th leaves), 4" X 6", n.p., 1876 March 21. Very good. Faint age toning; mounting traces on verso. On stationery with the blind-embossed log of Pall Mall's Athenaeum Club, Hughes offers commentary onn autograph collection: "I used to collect myself but gave it up long ago, partly from finding how many of my heroes dwindled sadly in my judgment as years went on. I fear the time will come when you will also weed your collection & amongst others will wonder how you could have made the present investment. But notwithstanding my foreboding I am very truly yours...." Handsomely penned in brown ink.
