A tight and quite lovely later printing of this hefty survey, handsomely signed and inscribed by the author on the front flyleaf: "For -- / Carl Tolpo -- / with every best wish & a real hope / that you will long enjoy this book / about the noted cowboy artist! / Sincerely / Harold McCracken / Cody, Wyoming / Sept. 5, 1965." Carl Tolpo (1901-76) was a noted artist best remembered for his Abraham Lincoln statuary and his Yellowstone paintings. McCracken (1894-1983) was an American author, photographer, cinematographer and producer who co-founded the Buffalo Bill Historical Center and the Whitney Museum of Western Art; as an explorer, he led a group that attempted to prove a land bridge once existed between Alaska and Siberia; his numerous books include "Beyond the Frozen Frontier" (1936) and many titles about cowboys, big game hunting and artists of the American West.
