In Commemoration of the Centennial Anniversary of the Birth of Stephen A. Douglas.

[Springfield]: General Assembly State of Illinois, 1913. Paperback. Small 4to. Stiff wrappers with heavy white silk cord. (18pp). Illustrations (1 color). Very good. Outer wrappers (only) slightly age toned and lightly soiled. Item #34197

Tight and attractive copy -- internally a "Near fine" -- of this over-the-top elaborate "Programme of Exercises of the Douglas Natal Day Centennial Celebration," which featured speeches by Illinois' governor, both of its U.S. senators, former vice president Adlai E. Stevenson I, Douglas's grandson Robert D. Douglas and other political bigshots of the era. Full-page illustrations of Douglas, his birth house, the Douglas Monument in Chicago, the Old State House, the State Capitol and the U.S. flag. Front wrapper features a red, white, blue and gilt eagle and shield emblem. Tissue guards pristine. Quite lovely copy of an uncommon booklet most often found in poor condition with a split outer wrapper.
