One of the first serious studies of the U-Boat phenomenon, with chapters addressing "The U-Boat as a Legitimate Weapon of War," "First Attacks Upon Merchant Ships," "Minor Barbarities," etc. Scottish author, critic and editor Archer (1856-1924) was primarily a prolific drama critic and translator of Ibsen and other playwrights.
