Item #31634

ALS, 2pp, 4½" X 7¼", London, England, 1938 February 16. Addressed to Pauline Astor Spender Clay (1880-1972, widow of Herbert Henry Spender Clay, 1875-1937, Member of Parliament and Privy Counsellor). Near fine. On letterhead bearing an oval "House of Commons" blind emboss, Brass handsomely pens his condolences to the recently-widowed Mrs. Spender Clay. He remarks, "I have known Bertie ever since I entered the 'House' in 1922, and have been a member of his group since its inception. His kindness and charm endeared him to all parties in the House. He will be sadly missed by his many friends whom he enchanted with his courtesy, modesty and humour. The Country has lost a great gentleman whom it could ill afford to spare...." Most attractive.
