Item #29739 Report of the DJB Foundation. Wilbur Hugh FERRY.

Report of the DJB Foundation.

Scarsdale, NY: The DJB Foundation, n.y., [ca. 1976]. Paperback. 4to. Stiff brown wrappers. 67pp. Near fine. Item #29739

Tight and handsome copy of this charitable institution's five-year report chronicling all of the causes and organizations to which they had given funds -- with a unique autographic twist: Founder and philanthropist Wilbur Hugh "Ping" Ferry (1910-95) signs and inscribes the half-title page boldly in blue fineline, not once but twice! Above the half-title, he pens: "For John Beecher -- who will / understand the DJB Foundation / better then 99.99% of his / fellow-citizens -- / Ping" Below the half-title he adds: "This tells who we've been / doing & continue to do, in far / more modest fashion, as non- / foundationeers & Compliments as / always on a busy & effective / life -- / warm wishes -- / P." BEECHER (1904-80) was a noted social protest poet and fine press publisher whose work and interests clearly piqued Ferry's interest. A most unusual copy. Ferry was, among other things, an English instructor at Choate, and one of his pupils was John F. Kennedy, who used to call him "creeping Wilbur."
