The Essays of Michael de Montaigne, Translated Into English, with Very Considerable Amendments and Improvements from the Most Accurate French Edition of Peter Coste.
London: W. Miller, White and Cochrane, Lackington, Allen, and Co., 1811. Hardcover. Complete 3-volume set. Small 4to. Modern fall calf binding with gilt compartments and borders. 530pp; 545pp; 458pp, (81pp index). All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Very good overall. Original text blocks clean and lovely and free of foxing; modern bindings likewise tasteful and handsome, although head of spine of Volume II bears an unfortunate 3/4" gash at the head of the spine (archivally mended, but visible) and a couple of other small discreet punctures; circular blind-embossed ownership stamp impressed on inner front flyleaf of each volume. Item #28938
Despite these minor issues, this is a superb and quite handsome set of this important edition.
