This pioneering Canadian illustrator and author appeared in "St. Nicholas Magazine" often, where his "Brownies" often appeared; they debuted in book form in "The Brownies, Their Book" in 1887, appearing in a dozen volumes with titles such as "The Brownies Abroad" and "The Brownies Around the World."
