This Canadian Native American wrestler, known as "Marvelous Mohawk," was one of the greatest box office attractions of the early days of televised wrestling; he won the best-of-three-falls AWA World title in 1950, but had it taken away three days later in a controversial incident during a match with Gorgeous George; he died at age 41 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, an apparent suicide. IPS, 8" X 10", n.p., n.y. [ca. 1960]. Very good. Small chip at lower left corner, not affecting image. Full-length publicity portrait of Eagle in Indian costume and full headdress, posing somberly with arms outstretched; appropriate Indian props alongside him include a birch bark drum atop an Indian blanket In a light portion to the right of his torso, Eagle inscribes it boldly in blue ballpoint: "Good Hunting / Chief Don Eagle." Quite handsome and quite scarce. One of wrestling's early greats, a suicide at age 41. Item #20657
