This English politician and Viscount (member of Parliament, chief secretary for Ireland, secretary for India) was also a noted editor ("Fortnightly Review" 1867-82, "Pall Mall Gazette" 1880-83) and prolific historian ("Edmund Burke" 1867, "Voltaire" 1872, "Rousseau" 1876, "Richard Cobden" 1881, "Ralph Waldo Emerson" 1884, etc.). Signature, heavy stock 5½" X 4¼", n.p., n.d. Very good. Mild age toning and somewhat irregular edges. Morley's ownership signature on the top right margin of a partial front wrapper for a monthly publication, "The Quarterly Review" ("No. 285. / January," though year is cropped off).
