Item Id: 31276
N.p.: Education Research, Inc., 1950. Printed color poster, 38" X 25". Near fine. Original folds (none weakened), else superb and pristine, with colors as bright as the day it was published and entirely lacking in age toning or edge tears. This curious and handsome poster bears no title, but is entirely filled with a floor plan (pictorial style, not a blueprint) of a milk processing plant. A greyish sidewalk with ornamental shrubbery runs outside its borders with a variety of pedestrians strolling, observing, playing, some entering the plant's cafeteria at lower left and sitting at the stools along the winding counter. Twelve other rooms are pictured and identifdied, with workers her and there operating machinery, etc. Arrows with brief text take the viewer on a guided tour through this large factory. These other rooms consist of (in order of size): "Milk Processing Room," "Ice Cream Processing Room," "Hardening Room," "Bottle and Case Washing Room," "Milk Receiving Room," "Milk Storage Room," "Laboratory," "Salesmen's Room," "Receiving Room for Cream and Milk Solids," "Supply Room," "Compressor Room" and "Boiler Room. Beautifully printed in full color. In addition to this floor plan, also present are sixteen (16) heavy stock 10" X 7" sheets (printed in color on one side only), each with a color cutout meant to be snipped apart and assembled into a three-dimensional piece of processing machinery to be affixed to predetermined spots on the floor plan. (Some sheets include two separate pieces of the identical machinery.) There are cutouts for two "Farm Pick-Up Truck," two "Milk Delivery Truck," two "Ice Cream Delivery Truck," "Cooler for Milk Receiving Room," "Pasteurizer," "Homogenizers," "Clarifier for Milk Processing Room," "Milk Storage Tank," "Coolers," "Weigh Tanks," "Holding Tank," "Bottle Filler and Capper for Milk Processing Room" and "Can Washer." Whether these materials were produced for distribution to public schools as a public relations move or for use in trade schools or other training institutions we have been unable to determine. In any case, a delightful period piece in choice collector's condition.
