Item #49434 Signed Broadside. Charles E. "Chuck" YEAGER.

Signed Broadside.

Legendary U.S. Air Force fighter pilot of World War Two, the Korean War and Vietnam War best known as the first test pilot to break the sound barrier in 1947. Item #49434

Signed broadside, heavy stock 16½" X 11", Chicago, IL, n.y. [1985]. Very good. Mild overall wear. White card stock promotional sheet placed behind plexiglass in the door of every "Chicago Tribune" metal newspaper stand, printed in black and orange and reading simply "The / Supersonic / Best Seller / YEAGER / Starting Sunday 7/28 / Chicago Tribune" in huge typefaces. In a light area at upper right, Yeager signs boldly in black fineline. Yeager's 1985 autobiography, titled simply "Yeager," proved a bestseller, especially coming as it did on the heels of the popular 1983 film "The Right Stuff" (in which he did a cameo as Fred the bartender and Sam Shepard portrayed Yeager); excerpts from it were serialized in Chicago’s most popular newspaper. An exceptionally unusual item, these ephemeral broadsides being intended for temporary public display invariably followed by disposal -- ideal for display. Likely one of a kind.
