An Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard.
Cedar Rapids, IA: The Torch Press, n.y. Hardcover. 8vo. Quarter tan cloth and tan paper over boards with black lettering. (29pp). Color pictorial title page/facing leaf. Near fine. Faint age toning to endpapers. Item #48609
Quite handsome undated (early 20th century) edition of the best-known work (first published 1751) of the British poet, scholar and man of letters (1716-71). Multicolor title page/facing leaf (first stanza of poem) are printed on a glossy, heavy stock and mimic an ornate illuminated manuscript leaves with rubricated initial capital letters, etc. Charming -- and front flyleaf bears a neatly penned contemporary "Compliments of / WA Pratt / Pratt Tours" -- perhaps a tour group memento given after visiting the church that's the likely inspiration, St Giles' parish church in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire?
